History
Emergency Response Dogs is dedicated to improving the safety and security of people with limited mobility and/or potentially life threatening conditions.
Emergency Response Dogs is different from other charities which provide assistance dogs because rather than focusing on the individual disabilities which people might have, Emergency Response Dogs is dealing with the frontline emergencies, working directly with the emergency services - fire service, ambulance service and also the police to ensure the safety of people who may be at risk.
The Team
The training is headed by Val Strong (the Training Director) supported by Tracey Moore and Shirley Lumley. After qualifying as a Medical Scientist, Val Strong went onto to pursue a career in animal behaviour, gaining her MSc in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling from the University of Southampton - studying the effects of diet on canine behaviour and training. She specialises in the training of dogs for people with complex medical conditions such as epilepsy and hypoglycaemia, and is held in high regard in both the Assistance Dog industry and as a canine behaviourist and trainer.
