The Dogs

From an Uncertain Future...

All Emergency Response Dogs are strays or unwanted. By selecting from rescue centres we are also able to offer the chance of a new life to a dog as well as helping a disabled person.

The Emergency Response Dogs training team has developed an unique assessment and selection process which ensures that each dog has the necessary temperament and behavioural qualities to become a Emergency Response Dog.

Once a dog has been fully assessed he or she is placed with a volunteer socialiser. It is the responsibility of the socialiser, under guidance of staff from Emergency Response Dogs, to prepare the young dog for its role as an assistance dog. Socialisers have a dog for approximately 4 to 6 months. They introduce the dog to family life and are asked to take the dog on public transport, to public places and generally include the dog in all everyday activities.
